STRANGER THINGS creators debunk popular fan theory debunking imagined ending plot

Like the last season of Stranger things is finally in development, fans are excited, but it took a long time due to delays and strikes, and we still have a pretty long wait! It’s frustrating, but as we ponder what the story might entail, bringing the beloved series to a close, we can at least rule out one idea that’s been making the rounds on fan forums.

In a recent interview with Metro at the West End premiere of the prequel stage show Stranger Things: The First Shadowthe creators of the series, The Duffer Brotherswas asked about the fan theory that the entire series is just the imagined acting of one very involved character Dungeons & Dragons game played by the show’s characters.

Matt jokingly responded first, saying:

“That’s correct. This is the ending…. NO.”

Ross added:

“It would be the equivalent of ‘It’s all a dream.’ No, I assure you we won’t end the show like this. We’ve known where we’re going for a while. And we feel comfortable; we hope it satisfies everyone. We will see.”

The first few times that idea was used, it was a really good idea. But it’s been done now, which is why people are even wondering if this could be the plot. I’m relieved to know that the Duffers won’t go down this path. It would have felt like a huge cop-out and a real disappointment to fans who loved the original storytelling of this series as a whole.

I don’t know how the series will end, but I’m excited to see it unfold. Do you have any fan theories that you think are real possibilities we could see play out in the final season?
