AMC Entertainment Gourmet Candy Line, AMC Cinema Sweets, launches and rotates theaters

AMC expanded its concession offerings to include its own line of confections, just after the launch of its AMC popcorn brand.

CEO Adam Aron first mentioned the candy offensive in May, citing the cost savings of making products in-house as well as the branding opportunities. Today’s news says four varieties of Cinema Sweets chocolate candies are now available in U.S. theaters, “at prices consistent with other confectionery products,” the company said.

The initial offering includes: milk chocolate covered pretzels with a drizzle of dark chocolate; Milk chocolate covered almonds; milk chocolate covered raisins; and milk chocolate covered peanuts. More varieties will hit the market in 2024.

“Over the past year, we have conducted research and development to ensure that the AMC Cinema Sweets that carry the AMC name are sweets we are proud of and, just as importantly, truly delicious snacks that our guests will enjoy and crave” when they come to the film. said Hank Green, VP Food & Beverage at AMC. The country’s biggest exhibitor said the launch was the result of “over a year of intensive study and close collaboration with top pastry chefs”.

The company’s theatrical AMC Perfectly Popcorn is on the shelves of more than 2,000 Walmart stores and is expanding to other retailers.

The issuer also launched an AMC-branded Visa card.

These are all unusual moves in the industry, led by CEO Adam Aron. The CEO, who can now sell shares to raise cash, has done so aggressively in recent months to ensure the company has an adequate cash cushion through 2024. The box office could take a bit of a hit next year as episodes have been brought out of the closet. The Hollywood strikes.
