New trailer for Mads Mikkelsen’s historical exploration film THE PROMISED LAND

A new trailer has been released for Mads MikkelsenThe historical epic drama The promised land. Mikkelsen plays the role of Danish explorer Ludvig Kahlen, “who set out to conquer the harsh and uninhabitable Danish wilderness with a seemingly impossible goal; build a colony in the name of the king.”

This film is based on a true story which is described as “a gripping story of the conquest of the moor, the story of a proud and uncompromising man, and the woman who becomes his ally in the fight against evil, death and perdition”.

In 1755, “impoverished Captain Ludvig Kahlen sets out to conquer the harsh, uninhabitable Danish wilderness with a seemingly impossible goal: to build a colony in the name of the king. In exchange, he will receive a long-desired royal name for himself. But the area’s only ruler, the ruthless Frederik de Schinkel, arrogantly believes that this land belongs to him. When de Schinkel discovers that the maid Ann Barbara and her servant husband have fled to take refuge with Kahlen, the privileged and spiteful ruler vows revenge, doing everything in her power to drive the captain away. Kahlen will not be intimidated and will engage in an unequal battle, risking not only his life, but also that of the family of outsiders that has formed around him.”

Mikkelsen plays opposite Amanda Collin (Raised by wolves), Magnus Krepper (Queen of Hearts), Simon Bennebjerg (Borgen), Gustav Lindh (The Norman), Kristine Kujath Thorp (Ninjababy), Morten Hee Andersen (Margrete: Queen of the North), Jacob Lohmann (Knights of Justice), AND Felix Kramer (Dark).

The film was directed by Nikolai Arcel from a script he wrote with Anders Thomas Jensen (Knights of Justice). It is based on the 2020 Danish bestseller Kaptajnen by Ann Barbara translated as The Captain and Ann Barbara.

Arcel shared in a statement: “Helped by Ida Jessen’s brilliant novel, Anders Thomas Jensen and I wanted to tell a grand, epic story about how our ambitions and desires will inevitably fail if they are all we have. Life is chaos, painful and unpleasant. , beautiful and extraordinary, and often we cannot control it. As the saying goes, “We make plans and God laughs.”

The film will be released on February 2, 2024.
