Broadway box office and ticket prices fell back to bottom last week after last week’s inflated Thanksgiving numbers, with total revenue for the 26 productions falling 14% to a total of $29,568,897.
The average ticket price for the week ending Dec. 3 was $134.70, $16.19 or 11% less than the holiday week average. Total attendance fell just 4% to 219,511, suggesting the drop in box office revenue was largely due to lower ticket spending.
a new show, Suitable starring Sarah Paulson, joined the band and filled nearly every seat in the non-professional Second Stage Hayes Theater. Written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and starring Elle Fanning and Corey Stoll, the play grossed $483,124 in seven previews with attendance at 98% of the venue’s capacity. Opening night is December 18.
While all but eight of the productions reported a decline in box office receipts after Thanksgiving, a significant number of shows were at 90% or more capacity: & Juliet, Aladdin, Suited, Hadestown, Hamilton (100%), I need it, we roll happily together (100%), MJ, Moulin Rouge!, Six, The Book of Mormon, The Lion King And Bad (99.5%).
To date, Broadway has grossed $799,226,359 with a total attendance of 6,485,630.
