The Flower Moon Assassins writer Eric Roth revealed who he is collaborating with Dune director Denis Villeneuve for a mysterious science fiction film project. During a recent interview on the A Script Apart podcast, Roth shared the following information:
“I just wrote a film for Denis Villeneuve. We’ll see what happens, but he’s about space and time, and he’s very solitary. It’s certainly about eternity.”
World of Reel asked Roth about the news and whether this was a script for the rumored adaptation of By Arthur C. Clarke Meeting with Rama, which Villeneuve has reportedly been working on for some time now. The screenwriter said:
“The title will have to remain a dark star for now. Suffice it to say, at 78, I’m trying to find some answers to unanswered things.”
I hope Meeting with Rama, whose story is set in the 2130s and involves a massive cylindrical alien spaceship entering the Solar System. The story is told from the point of view of a group of human explorers who intercept the ship in an attempt to unravel its mysteries.
Whatever the project, there’s no guarantee it will get made, and if it does, it will be a while before we see it. Villeneuve has a third Dune film he wants to make.
