Broadway Gets Big Thanksgiving Bonus: Weekly Revenue and Ticket Prices Up Nearly 30%

Thanksgiving was in abundance on Broadway last week, with box office – and ticket prices – up nearly 30% the week before.

As tourists flocked to New York, theatergoers snapped up pricier holiday seats and the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade showcased the bounty of Broadway, the 26 shows on the stage grossed a combined $34,512,033, a 28% increase over the $27,060,113 in the previous week .

With attendance steady – and three fewer performances – the increase in revenue was driven by a 27% increase in the average ticket price: $151, up from $118 the previous week.

Overall, 90% of Broadway seats were occupied during the holiday week.

Almost all productions recorded a sharp increase, just two examples: both We roll happily together And & Julia set new home records at their respective locations: Bright grossed $2,046,288, surpassing its own previous record at the Hudson Theatre & Julia The best gross was $1,459,276 PrettyThe previous flood spots in Sondheim.

The Thanksgiving profit wasn’t just limited to Broadway’s latest newcomers: perennial top earners The lion king earned a whopping $2.9 million — an increase of $867,691 from the previous week — and Bad received $2.6 million, an increase of $792,588.

Only four shows broke the uptrend: A beautiful sound, harmony, like dancing in Ohio And Purlie wins. While it is still too early for the selection to see any impact from the Thanksgiving parade performances, How to dance could see a possible rise out of the spotlight on the NBC broadcast (the musical opens in previews on Dec. 10).

The highlights were the ticket price increases across the board Brighttops the list with an average price of just under $265; The lion king for $217; And Hamilton for $214. & Julia was in the upper level at $178, and MJ amount to $177.

To date, Broadway has grossed $769,657,462 with a total attendance of 6,266,119.
