Steven Spielberg AND Martin Scorsese are teaming up to develop and executive produce a series adaptation of The promontory of fear. The project is said to be a drama series that revisits classic Universal films and is created by Nick Antosca (The act, Hannibal), who will also serve as showrunner.
THE the promontory of fear is described as an unconventional version of the IP from which it draws inspiration John D. MacDonaldThe novel and its adaptations. “THE the promontory of fear is a tense, contemporary thriller that examines America’s obsession with true crime in the 21st century. In it, a storm is brewing for a couple of married lawyers when a notorious killer from their past is released after years in prison.
The story of this series is a slight departure from MacDonald’s 1957 book The executioners and movies that were movies, but it sounds interesting. The first film adaptation came in 1962 and was directed by J. Lee Thompson from the storyboards created by the original director Alfred Hitchcock. She starred in that film Gregory Peck. The second film came from Scorsese in 1991 and starred Robert De Niro.
The series is in the midst of a major bidding war in Hollywood, and some of the streaming services that are trying to get it include Peacock, Hulu, Netflix, and HBO.
The report states that “Antosca was allegedly obsessed with both of them the promontory of fear films since childhood and approached Universal about adapting the property through UCP, where it has lived for the past seven years.
This project is still a long way off, but I’m curious to see how it turns out. With the level of creative talent involved, I’m sure it will be great!
