A new clip from Dan Trachtenbergthe next movie Predator: Badlands just came out and it looks like the film is taking a major step towards the connection Predator AND Alien universes in style.
While Trachtenberg insists there are no “xenomorphs” in his new film, this new footage tells a different story, one that directly relates Badlands TO Alien and even echoes the plot of Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror classic.
The clip focuses on Elle Fanning as Tessa, one of the two characters she plays in the film. The other is Thia, and both are synthetics created by the Weyland-Yutani Corporation, the same shady mega-corporation that sent Ripley and the Nostromo crew to their doom in Alien, and the same one that dabbled in bioweapons and alien research in multiple entries in the Alien franchise.
In the clip, Tessa receives a transmission from the MU/TH/UR company’s AI interface, the same code name used in the Alien franchise, informing her that she failed to complete her mission.
His task was to acquire a biological weapon named “XX0522”. What exactly it is remains a mystery. Could it be a xenomorph? Or perhaps another deadly creature we glimpsed in the trailers? For now, no one knows.
What is clear, however, is that Weyland-Yutani is up to its old tricks by using synthetic materials to recover dangerous alien organisms. This is a direct line to the films in the franchise.
The connection deepens when you realize that Weyland-Yutani also knows about the Yautja species, better known to us as Marauders, and seems to pit Tessa against one of them.
Whether or not a xenomorph actually appears Predator: Badlands, it’s obvious that Alien’s DNA runs through this film. A Predator movie that delves into Weyland-Yutani’s shady dealings and their obsession with alien lifeforms?
We’ll find out exactly how these two deadly worlds will collide Predator: Badlands will be released in theaters on November 7.
