Margot Robbie on possible “Barbie 2”: “We didn’t make it a trilogy”

After the box office success of BarbieThere has been much talk of a possible sequel that would see Margot Robbie reprise the title character.

However, in a new interview, it appears that Robbie is exhausting all possibilities for a sequel to the film directed by Greta Gerwig.

“I think we put everything into this. We didn’t set it up as a trilogy or anything like that,” Robbie told the station Associated Press in an interview. “Greta put everything into this film, so I can’t imagine what the next step would be.”

Barbie The film grossed over $1.4 billion at the box office and Robbie also reflected on the success of the film, noting that “original films can still be big.”

“It doesn’t have to be a sequel, a prequel or a remake,” Robbie continued. “It can be very original. Given the big budget for this, it could still be big. And just because there’s a female lead doesn’t mean it doesn’t hit all four quadrants, which I think is still a misconception a lot of people have.

Robbie says it’s important for Barbie to get it right so future filmmakers have “big, original ideas and the budget to execute them well.”

Barbie Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Ana Cruz Kayne, Ritu Arya, Dua Lipa and Nicola Coughlan have also played different variations of Barbie. The Kens were played by Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans and John Cena. The cast also included America Ferrera, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Michael Cera, Connor Swindells and Helen Mirren as narrator.
