EXCLUSIVE: SAG-AFTRA issued a tentative agreement Sometimes I think about dyingan indie gem produced by and starring Daisy Ridley that made headlines at its world premiere on opening night of the 2023 Sundance Film Festival.
Director: Rachel Lambert, lead role RamyAs we first reported, Dave Merheje will be released in US theaters via Oscilloscope. It will be released on January 26th and will open exclusively in New York at Angelika. The deal with SAG means the cast can promote the release, giving the picture more visibility and hopefully a better chance of breaking out at the box office.
A dark comedy written by Kevin Armento, Stefanie Abel Horowitz and Katy Wright-Mead. Sometimes I think about dying tells the story of Fran (Ridley), lost on the desolate coast of Oregon, who finds solace in her cabin, listens to the constant buzzing of her office colleagues and sometimes daydreams to pass the time. Fran is haunted by life and cannot break through her isolation until a friendly new colleague, Robert (Merheje), keeps trying to contact her. Even if it goes against every fiber of her being, maybe she should give this man a chance.
Also pictured are Parvesh Cheena, Marcia Debonis, Meg Stalter and Brittany O’Grady. In addition to Ridley, the contestants also included Alex Saks (Red rocket, Wild animals), Dori Rath, Lauren Beveridge and Brett Beveridge. Lisa D’Ambrosio, MD, produces for Mirror Image.
In her review of the film from Sundance, Deadline’s Valerie Complex praised Lambert’s “refreshing, innovative and humorous” take on a story that focused on “depression and everyday life,” and also called Ridley’s work one of considered the best of her career.
In a recent statement about the picture’s US deal, Dan Berger, president of Oscilloscope, said: “There is so much Sometimes I think about dying Nails about the coexistence of everyday life and the beauty of life. “The script by Kevin, Stefanie and Katy is as ironic as it is moving, and the tone set by Rachel’s direction and all the performances – led by Daisy and Dave – fits this line perfectly.”
Berger went on to describe the film as being “so deeply rooted in the world that it takes you there and makes you laugh and feel emotions throughout your stay,” promising that “it’s a real experience.”
