Doctor who showrunner Russell T. Davies has returned to the series for next season, after being absent for over a decade, and is gearing up for a couple of future seasons as well. The next season of Doctor who is a reboot of sorts, with Davies back at the helm and Ncuti Gatwa like the Doctor. The reset is called “Season 1.” Season 2 has already been confirmed and is expected to air in 2025.
Davies told SFX magazine (via gamesradar) in the new issue, which he features David Tennant like The Doctor on the cover:
“I’m planning season 3 now, there are plans for season 4. Absolutely. Who knows? Who knows. I’m not getting any younger. At the risk of sounding hypocritical, but I really, truly say this: They were going to do something like this to the show anyway, and I honestly thought, ‘He needs treatment.'”
THE Doctor who Special 60th anniversary episodes include “The Star Beast,” which premieres Saturday, Nov. 25; “Wild Blue Yonder” Saturday, Dec. 2; and then “The Giggle” on Saturday, December 9th.
The specials find the Fourteenth Doctor (David Tennant) reunite with Donna (Catherine Tate) as they fight against the Toy Maker (Neil Patrick Harris). Jacqueline King (Silvia Nobile), Karl Collins (Shaun Temple) and Jemma Redgrave (Kate Lethbridge Stewart) also reprise their roles from past seasons. Yasmin Finney, Miriam Margolyes AND Ruth Madeley also star.
