UPDATED with another category: The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences today announced the nominations for the second annual Children and Families Emmy Awards. Check out the list here with one category omitted below.
Nominees in a personally judged category – Interactive Media – will be announced later this month, as well as winners in two juried categories: Individual Achievement in Animation and the newly established Public Service Initiative.
“We are very proud of the growth we have experienced in the second year of the Kids and Family Emmys, especially in the development and growth of the new categories dedicated to puppetry,” said Rachel Schwartz, president of Daytime and Children’s & Family Emmys Awards said. .
NATAS launched the standalone Children & Family competition and ceremony in 2021 after several years of changes to how the children’s Emmy categories are presented.
The move, which marked the first expansion of the Emmy Awards slate since the Sports and News and Documentary Emmys were launched in 1979, came amid a flurry of submissions in the children’s genre. Notably, there were more than 300 entries in the 2020 Individual Achievement in Animation category alone — more than any other Emmy category. Six projects won the prize.
“Children’s and family programming has long been a leader in innovation and storytelling,” said Brent Stanton, head of Daytime and Children’s & Family Emmy Awards. “Especially this year, a year so marked by artists fighting for fair recognition of their true worth, it is more important than ever to celebrate the excellence of their talents and achievements,” he said.
After this post was published, NATAS changed the list and added an omitted category:
SOUND MIXING AND SOUND EDITING FOR AN ANIMATION PROGRAM
Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, Warner Bros.
I’m Big, Disney+
Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, Netflix
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nickelodeon
Star Trek: Prodigy, Nickelodeon
