In a recent interview, Scorsese talked about the change at the box office following the success of films based on comic books.

“The danger is what it does to our culture,” Scorsese said GQ. “Because there will be generations now who think that’s what movies are – that’s what movies are.”

Scorsese continued: “They already think that way. This means we have to fight back stronger.” And it has to come from the grassroots. It has to come from the filmmakers themselves. And you have, you know, the Safdie brothers, and you have Chris Nolan, you know what I mean? And hit them from all sides. Hit them from all sides and don’t give up. Let’s see what you have. Go out and do it. Reinvent yourself. Don’t complain about it. But it’s true, because we have to save the cinema.”

After Scorsese’s comments were picked up by the media, Russo created a TikTok response video that has since gone viral. In the original clip, Scorsese asks his dog named Oscar to “show my sadness.” Russo then kept going in the video, introducing his own dog, which he named “Box Office,” and praising the results of Marvel films that motivate moviegoers to go to the movies.

“Is [dog] My name is Oscar, it’s very cute… [meet] Box Office,” Russo says in the video.
