TERRIFIER 2 director wants to direct a FRIDAY THE 13TH movie, has ideas for a revival, and has spoken to producers

The director of the hit independent horror franchise Terrifying, Damiano Leoneis interested in directing a Friday 13th movie, and has some ideas on how to revive the franchise. THE Friday 13th the franchise has been dormant since 2009, and I’ll be honest, I really don’t need to see the franchise revived. The film series has had a good run, and I’d be fine if we never saw Jason return from the dead… again, to kill people.

Over the years there have been attempts to get the franchise off the ground again, but there were some rights issues that need to be resolved. Blumhouse is the latest production company to talk about getting its hands on the franchise, but Leone would also like to try. If anyone is going to do a brutal Friday 13th film, it would be Leone. Those Terrifying the movies are crazy.

During a recent interview with /Film, Leone spoke about his desire to make a Friday 13th film and talked about how he would approach the franchise:

“I’ve been saying for a while now that if I could ever remake a slasher movie, it would be ‘Friday the 13th’. Jason has always been my favorite slasher since I was a kid, and I think there’s a way to… I mean, my approach would be to keep it ’80s, honestly. ’80s. I would try to make it as scary as possible because I feel like that’s something they lost as the movies went on. You start to feel too self-contained. comfortable with these bad guys and you have to be afraid of them again.”

Yes, if this franchise was revived, recapturing the spirit of those original films would be a must, and I also like the aspect of setting the story in the 80s. Leone also believes that violence in films should not be stylish and entertaining, but “brutal”. Which makes sense for the franchise! The director just wants to recapture the atmosphere of the original horror films. Then he goes on to say that he has had encounters:

“[B]Believe it or not, I got to talk to some people who are executives in charge of that franchise. I think I’m still a little too obscure on the list of people they would approach to direct that movie in Hollywood.”

The fact is that he would be the perfect director, but he understands that for directors like him it is an unlikely feat. He said:

“I was told, ‘Listen, everyone and their mother wants to do that movie. It’s a long list.’ So, unfortunately, I don’t think I could pull it off now, but maybe when they reboot it in the next 20 years, I’ll be able to try. But it would be a dream project and then it would be “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” […] I think there’s a lot of cool and scary things you can do with Freddy that we haven’t seen in a long time. The difficult thing about ‘Nightmare Elm Street’ is just finding that new Robert Englund. That would be the hardest thing, obviously.”

I’m sure that one day Friday The 13th will be revived again, but when it is, it will most likely be made by a creative team that thinks they know what audiences want in the franchise, but actually have no idea. . Leone would give us a fragmented, raw and brutal film reminiscent of the previous films in the series.
