Brie Larson Reportedly No Longer Wants to Play Captain Marvel in the MCU Due to ‘Toxic Backlash’

When Academy Award winner Brie Larson he was initially cast as Captain Marvel in the MCU and there were a lot of mixed reactions from fans. I remember that many fans were really happy that he was chosen for the role. It wasn’t until after the release of her solo film Captain Marvel that complaints started coming in about how she played the character. Regardless, people went a little crazy on her.

Then rumors spread online about how difficult the actress was to work with, along with some interview clips during the film’s promotional tours that led to fans lashing out at her. Larson had dismissed the backlash by saying, “I don’t have time for this,” in MCU: The Kingdom of Marvel Studios book, and that author is there Joanna Robinson indicated that the backlash actually had an impact on Larson.

“I don’t have time for this. The things I have the most time to really look at are: Am I eating healthy food? Am I drinking water? Am I meditating? Did I call my mom today?”

At the time, he was in a position to lead the MCU as part of its new “trinity” of superheroes, with the departure of some of its other big stars. It is explained that she was disappointed working with Marvel Studios:

“The future of those Marvel icons was unclear. The departure of franchise hosts like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson had already taken their toll, as had the shocking loss of Chadwick Boseman, but other MCU stalwarts they were heading into the future.” goes out. The Guardians of the Galaxy cast went on a farewell tour, Brie Larson was disappointed, and Marvel fell out with Sony in a custody battle over Tom Holland.

During a recent episode of The Watch podcast, Robinson opened up a little more and said that Larson doesn’t even want to play Carol Danvers anymore. She said:

“[Marvel Studios] enter Brie Larson [a prominent place in the MCU]. I don’t know if Brie Larson was necessarily the wrong person for the role. But the toxic reaction means Brie Larson no longer wants to play Carol Danvers.”

When Larson was recently asked if he would return to play the character after the upcoming The Marvels movie, Larson responded, “I don’t know, does anyone want me to do it again?” Marvel expected that Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man would be the trio of main characters that would lead the MCU into the new millennium, but that was no longer a future it could count on.”

As for whether or not Larson will return to the role, I think it all depends on what happens The wonders. If the film ends up doing well and he ends up getting good reviews and a moderate amount of success at the box office, there’s a good chance he’ll continue playing the character. But, if the movie blows up, he will definitely think about what his future will be like in the MCU.
