Delightful and hilarious trailer for the Oscar-contender AMERICAN FICTION starring Jeffrey Wright

A delightfully funny trailer for the Oscar-winning film has been released, American fictionhero Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, The Batman) like Monaco, with Giovanni Ortiz (Bright Side Manual), Tracee Ellis Ross (Blackish), Issa Rae (Insecure), Keith David (Armageddon), Erika Alessandro (Living single), Leslie Uggam (Dead Pool), Adam Brody (Shazam!), AND Sterling K. Brown (this is us).

The film is written and directed by Jefferson Cable (Master of None, The good place, Guardians), who makes his directorial debut with this film. The screenplay is adapted from the book CancellationOf Percival Everett. It initially premiered at the 2023 Toronto Film Festival, where it won the top prize “People’s Choice Award”, and Wright has been in early talks for Best Actor nominations this awards season.

The full synopsis of the film reads:

“American Fiction is Cord Jefferson’s hilarious directorial debut, tackling our culture’s obsession with reducing people to outrageous stereotypes. Jeffrey Wright plays Monk, a frustrated novelist who is fed up with the establishment profiting from “black” entertainment that relies on tired and offensive clichés. To prove his point, Monk uses a pseudonym to write an extravagant “black” book, a book that pushes him into the heart of the hypocrisy and madness he claims to disdain.

This looks like it’s going to be a really fun movie and Wright seems to have knocked it out of the park with this performance. Check out the trailer below and watch American fiction in select U.S. theaters on December 15.
