The film is based on David Grannthe book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. The film is set in 1920s Oklahoma and depicts the serial murder of members of the oil-rich Osage Nation, a series of brutal crimes that became known as the Reign of Terror.
In the clip, we see DiCaprio’s character, Ernest Burkhart, as he tries to explain a murder-for-hire gone wrong to his uncle (De Niro), a powerful local rancher named William Hale.
The couple is united in the film by Lily Gladstone, Brendan Fraser AND Jesse Plemon. The full synopsis of the film reads:
In the late nineteenth century, the Osage Indians were driven to a supposedly worthless expanse of land in northeastern Oklahoma. But it turned out that their territory sat atop one of the largest oil fields in the United States; to obtain that oil, prospectors had to pay rents and royalties to the tribe. By the 1920s, members of the Osage Nation had become the richest people per capita in the world. And then the Osage began to die under mysterious circumstances.
