LOKI Costume Designer Talks Collaborating with Ke Huy Quan and Her Character’s Nod to THE GOONIES Data

Fans of the Marvel series Loki are excited about the new season that kicked off this week. We will return to the time travel plot of the God of Deception and his new friends at TVA, including Owen Wilson like Möbius, e Sofia Di Martino as Sylvie, but we will also see some new faces, including that of the beloved Oscar-winning actor Ke Huy Quan (Everything everywhere and everything at once). His character, OB, works in the basement of the Time Variance Authority, and is also the hidden brains behind it, which in itself sounds a bit like the young inventor character played by Quan. The GooniesData.

Apparently, Quan’s costume in the series also pays homage to Data. In a recent interview with ComicBook, the show’s costume designer, Cristina Wadaspoke about the collaboration with Quan and said:

“Oh my God, it’s just like he brought a suit to life. And it was really funny because he talked about, well, the first rehearsal, or maybe it was a phone call, he talked about patches because Data had patches and he was like, ‘What about patches? That would be so fun.’ And he really was, but then he quickly became OB. Now he carries so much, I mean, you could put it in a paper bag and he would bring it to life.”

He continued saying:

“He’s so sweet, but he’s also very dedicated, and he does his homework, and he really asks himself, ‘Shouldn’t it look a little more vintage?’ I mean, we always wanted it to feel like the ’30s or ’40s, so [his costume] it was taken from a vintage suit from that era.”

Season 2 Episode 1 of Loki is now streaming on Disney+. Have you already watched it? What did you think?
