Metal Gear Solid AND Stranded Death Creator Hideo Kojima he was recently a guest at the Criterion Closet and while there he recommended a number of Japanese films for me to watch. While Kojima is best known for being a prolific video game creator and storyteller, he loves movies and wanted to share a few that other movie fans should check out.
His advice gives us insight into his creative mind and vision for the projects he’s worked on and the cinematic stories he tells.
The Criterion Closet is a special room filled with tons of great films in Criterion’s New York office. Directors and actors are often invited there to choose their favorite films and talk about them. In Kojima’s video he chooses 9 Japanese films from the 50s and 60s. These films include:
