Director Todd Phillips’ The joker took the audience on a rather manic journey. With a sequel on the way, I thought I’d revisit the film and noticed that one of the special features offered some clips of Joaquin Phoenix trying out different ways to play the character during the scene where he is introduced on “The Murray Franklin Show.” Phillips says in the video:
“What I like about Joaquin is his style and his unpredictability, which I thought suited this character. And he’s never been stuck in one thing. I think he’s the most talked about agile, agile actor he’s ever worked with. He certainly doesn’t get stuck in anything.”
Whether or not you loved the movie or hated it, the movie was a huge success and Phoenix gave an incredible and memorable performance. You can watch the outtakes in the video below. It’s interesting to see some of the things that were going through his mind while he was shooting this particular scene.
