THE Guardians of the Galaxy the trilogy concluded this year, and while the post-credits scenes led us to believe we’ll see our friends return, director James Gunn has made it clear that his three-film story arc is over for now and he will be working on running the DC Universe for the foreseeable future. But while we wait, it’s nice to be able to revisit the three films (and the Christmas special) that he created, as they have become some of the most beloved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
But as hilarious and touching as those films are with perfect casting, the actors playing the characters came together piece by piece, and they mostly weren’t the ones Gunn had in mind all along.
CBM reports that in Marvel Studios: Assembled documentary for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3Gunn initially had a very different cast in mind to bring together the ragtag group of misfits:
“When I first went to Marvel and pitched ‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ I brought a little book. I had worked very hard trying to put together this little book with all the little pictures and photo references and all that stuff. And in that book were all the characters listed and who I thought should play them and, of course, none of the actors in that book ended up playing the characters, except Zoe Saldaña, who I knew and loved from the very beginning.”
It’s hard to imagine the Guardians being played by anyone else Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Battista, vin Diesel, Bradley CooperAND Karen Gillan. They did a great job and I hope we see them again in the future. But I’m curious to know who Gunn had in mind when he introduced the film…
