THE Kate Beckinsale-driven Underworld The horror action franchise has had great success with five films, all of which have been entertaining. Way back in 2016, a TV series for the franchise was announced, but it didn’t seem to gain any momentum. It’s been a long time since we had an update on the project and for this reason I thought it was dead. Well, it seems that this is not the case.
Director of the Underworld franchise Len Wiseman recently offered an update on the project during an interview with Entertainment Weekly and confirmed that the project is still in development. She said: “There’s a trend in the making. I can’t talk about it, but there is definitely a future for Underworld.”
Wiseman was then asked specifically about the planned TV series and he replied, “That’s the one I’m referring to.” Speaking previously about the project, he explained:
“The series will be a big departure from the films. I don’t want to say it’s more adult, but it’s definitely less cartoony in tone and character.
There’s no word on whether the series will be connected to the films in any way, but I assume that if the series is going to be a “major departure” from the films, it won’t be.
I’m a fan of this franchise and it will be interesting to see what this series ends up becoming… if it ever actually gets made.
