Chris Evans agrees with Quentin Tarantino’s comment that ‘Marvel actors aren’t movie stars’

Last year, Quentin Tarantino said a few things about Marvel and the actors who play superhero characters in their films. He talked about how he doesn’t believe there are more movie stars because of the “wonderfulness of Hollywood.” He said that the actors who star in these Marvel films are not movie stars:

“There are all these actors who became famous playing these characters. But they’re not movie stars. Right? Captain America is the star. Or Thor is the star. I mean, I’m not the first person to say that. I think it was said countless times… but it’s as if these characters from the franchise became a star.”

Well, it turns out that Captain America star Chris Evans actually agrees with him. During a recent interview with GQ magazine, the actor stated:

“That’s been the beauty of working on the Marvel films. You never really had to be front and center. Even in your films sometimes. Quentin Tarantino said this recently and I thought, you know, he’s right. The character is the star. You’re there, but you don’t feel the weight of it.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige doesn’t see things the same way as Evans because he said, “I think it’s something [Chris] he was saying to himself, and I think that’s something that a lot of the Avengers, including Robert, would say to themselves, which was actually very helpful to the process. But in some cases, including Chris’s, that’s not entirely true.”

Iron Man star Robert Downey Junior. previously responded to Tarantino’s comments by saying, “I think our opinions on these topics say a lot about us. I think we’re in a time and place that I’ve unknowingly contributed to, where intellectual property has taken precedence about principles and personality. But it’s a double-edged sword. A piece of intellectual property is only as good as the human talent you can represent it, and you can have some great intellectual property even if it comes from an author or national treasure of a writer-director, and if you “Don’t have the right kind of artist to play that role, you’ll never know how good it could have been. I think creatively it’s a waste of time to be at war with ourselves. I think this is a time where everything is much more fragmented now that I think you have this kind of bifurcation. Throwing stones one way or another… and I’ve had my reactions in the past when people said things that I felt were discrediting my integrity… I say, “You know what? Let’s just get over it. We’re all a community. There’s enough room for everything,” and thank God for Top Gun: Maverick and Avatar: The Way of Water. That’s all I have to say. We need big things to make room for films like Armageddon Time.”

Then there’s the Nick Fury star Samuel L. Jacksonwho has worked with Tarantino a lot over the years, who said, “It takes an actor to portray those particular characters, and the mark of movie stardom has always been, what, butts in chairs. What are we talking about? It’s not like that It’s a big controversy for me to know that, apparently, these actors are movie stars. Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther. You can’t refute that, and he’s a movie star.”

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Actor Simu Liu also spoke out against these comments Twittersaying, “If the only gatekeepers of cinematic stardom had been Tarantino and Scorsese, I would never have had the opportunity to direct a $400 million-plus film. I am in awe of their cinematic genius. They are transcendent auteurs. But they don’t “. They won’t be able to point their noses at me or anyone else.”

So, as you can see, there have been many different opinions on the subject and it seems that Evans has the humblest view on things.

What do you think of what Tarantino said here about Marvel? The director had previously stated that he would not direct a Marvel film because he is not a mercenary. But if he made a movie, it would be Sgt. Fury and his Howling Commandos.
