FAST X director explains that Jason Momoa’s villain will “really evolve” in the upcoming sequel

Many Fast & Furious seemed to love Jason Momoathe evil character of Dante, in X fast. Many people believe it was the best part of the movie. I personally wasn’t a fan and found the character annoying, like fingernails on a blackboard annoying. Nothing about that last film really stood out to me, and I’m a fan of the franchise! But hey, if you liked it, you did.

Anyway, X fast director Louis Leterrier, who will also direct the sequel, recently teased what we can expect from Momoa’s Dante in the sequel. He explained to the Empire:

“Let’s do something else. It’s never the same with Jason. Dante will really evolve. Let’s explore something we’ve never seen before.

Leterrier went on to explain Momoa’s take on the character and what he believes made him so interesting:

“It was fueled by revenge. He could have played it in a dark, angry way. But it was interesting to play with the duality and the push and pull within the character, where within the same sentence he laughs and feels the pain of losing everything. Only an actor like Jason could have done that.”

A report surfaced after the film’s release that Diesel was dissatisfied with Momoa’s portrayal of the character. A source said, “Vin is embarrassed that Jason is being labeled the only bright spot in the film and is stealing his success in the franchise he’s built on his own.” Insiders also say Diesel is telling people that Momoa’s “overwrought” and “scene-stealing” nature was a factor in the negative reviews and undermined the film.

Diesel then shared a social media post in which he expressed kind words towards Momoa, saying, “I love the expressive and collaborative way all the actors in our franchise feel as they enter the World’s Saga. Jason wanted to try something completely unique and special and ended up creating a scene-stealing character that the world will never forget.”

Leterrier previously shared how Dante’s character was created because he and Momoa made each other laugh and also tried to make Diesel laugh, and they were never going to break it. He said:

“[Jason Momoa and I] we met in this film and realized that making each other laugh was a great way to create Dante. So we rewrote the dialogue together. I would say: “You should say enchanté” and then we would add “very bad dad”. So we really liked making each other laugh, and the extra point, the wild card of our game, was making Vin pop out of character as Dom Toretto.

“We tried really hard. Like when Dante calls Dom ‘ass’, but Vin is so focused when he’s on set that it was impossible. And when we called the cut, Vin was like, ‘Oh man, you tried really hard.’” . !’ So we were like kids on set, and it was absolutely fun.”

Looking forward to the next chapter in the franchise? You liked Momoa X fast and are you excited to see how the character continues to evolve?
