Greta Gerwig’S Barbie continues to make headlines, as it now tops The Super Mario Bros. Movie as the #1 film of the year globally with $1.365 billion. Its summer blockbuster counterpart, Christopher Nolan’S Oppenheimer it’s also breaking records, surpassing the director’s 2010 film Start as its third highest-grossing title ever globally, with $850 million.
This week marks the seventh weekend of release for the two summer films, with Barbie hung in first place, and Oppenheimer due to overrun Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as movie no. 3 of 2023 globally, behind only Barbie and Super Mario. Of Nolan’s films, it’s just now below The Dark Knight Rises AND The dark Knight.
