After the first trailer of the rebel moon many fans have taken to social media saying they would love to see the film hit theaters. The film is rumored to have a limited release, but it turns out the director Zack Snyder he is not even interested in the theatrical release of this film.
The reason for his disinterest is due to the extensive cuts of films which he has also distributed. During an interview with Polygon, the director explained:
“With that, I wasn’t very interested in a theatrical release, especially with the PG-13 versus extended cuts. I feel that with the theatrical release, the way the model is, it takes away some energy from it.
But the experience of watching a sci-fi epic like this one on a big screen in a movie theater full of fans is certainly appealing to many people. The film looks like it was made to be seen on the big screen! I don’t know, I just like watching movies at the cinema. I like that experience, I’ve enjoyed it since I was a kid. Snyder went on to say:
“My big fans would say, ‘Why are they fucking with you? Just do [the extended cuts]. In initial conversations with Netflix, they made it part of the plan.
For me, with my drawings, there ends up being a lot of that to tell a deeper story. With the director’s cuts I’ve made in the past, in a vacuum, that’s how the film would exist. It’s part of my relationship with the fans.
The story follows a group of ragtag rebels who rise up to fight against a gigantic evil empire. It is set in a “peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical regent Balisarius. They send a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from nearby planets to help them make a stand against the Tyrant.
The movie stars Charlie Hunnam, Bae Doona, Djimon Hounsou, Ray Fisher, Jena Malone, Ed Skrein, Stuart Martino, Cary Elwes, Corey Stoll, Michiel Huisman, Anthony Hopkins, AND Alfonso Herrera.
