Amazon’s Wondery is bringing Dr. Seuss’ library to podcasts starting with variety series THE CAT IN THE HAT CAST

Amazon’s studio and podcast network Wondery are partnering with Dr. Seuss Enterprises to bring classic children’s stories to the podcast world. The first story we’ll see brought to the platform is a series titled The cast of Puss in the Hat, described as a “fantastic variety show-style podcast series hosted by everyone’s favorite Puss in the Red and White Hat.” The weekly series, which premieres September 18, will be available exclusively on the Wondery+ subscription service via the Wondery app and Wondery Kids+ on Apple Podcasts.

The cast of Puss in the Hat will transport listeners to “a world filled with delightful clutter and hilarious mayhem,” in which the mischievous Cat takes the reins and enlightens the ever-cautious Fish on the art of hosting a perfectly balanced podcast, the companies said. The podcast will feature alphabet chants, tongue twisters, and puns. The Puss in the Hat is voiced by Andrea Barbatoa singer, writer, artist and comedian based in New York City, who is voiced by Fish Brandon Zelmannactor, improviser, director and writer from Brooklyn.

The companies plan to announce additional series in the coming weeks, with different distribution models for each depending on the title.

This is a really smart idea. I’ve been thinking a lot about the untapped market for kids’ podcasts. It will be fun for kids to listen to them while traveling or just going to school every week.
