Richard Lewis recently spoke about his experience in the meeting Seinfeld AND Curb your enthusiasm Creator Larry David for the first time, and he hated it so much he couldn’t escape it! The two have been friends for a lifetime now, but David’s first impression wasn’t the best!
Lewis recently gave an interview to British magazine Spectator revealing that the two friends were born three days apart in the Brooklyn Jewish Hospital and first met when they were 12 at a summer camp. He explained:
“I hated it intensely. He was conceited, he was arrogant. When we played baseball, I would try to hit him with the ball: we were bitter rivals. I couldn’t wait for the camping to be over just to get me away from Larry. I’m sure he felt the same way too.”
A decade later the two ended up reuniting on the New York cabaret scene, and it was during this time that they became close friends. When they first reconnected, they didn’t really recognize each other at first.
“I looked at his face and said, ‘There’s something about you, man, that scares me.'” David replied, “You’re Richard Lewis!” “You are Larry David!”
What a wild experience it must have been when they realized where they had met. Lewis continued talking about the upcoming twelfth season of Curb your enthusiasm. It was revealed earlier this year that Lewis had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, but he will appear in half the episodes of the new season and is confident the new season will be great. He says:
“Larry never does the show unless he thinks it’s going to be better than the last one. At least on paper, and with guest stars and cast, it’s having the best year ever. But he will be the judge because he modifies it.
Lewis got his big break in comedy when he appeared in Tonight’s Show with Johnny Carsonand then ended up doing comedy slots as well David Lettermann. He retired from stand-up four months ago, but it looks like he will continue to show up To brake whenever David needs him and if he is able.
