Denis Villeneuve Says DUNE MESSIAH Will Be His Last DUNE Movie If He Can Make It

It’s no secret that director Denis Villeneuve has a plan for a Dune trilogy, and during a recent interview with Empire, the director said that “it would be a dream” if he could make that trilogy. The first two films are based on Frank Herbert’S Dune novel, the third film would be called Messiah of the Dunes and would be based on Herbert’s second book, Dune Messiah.

The director then spoke about his big project and his ideas, saying: “If I could make a trilogy, that would be my dream. Dune Messiah was written in reaction to people perceiving Paul Atreides as a hero. Which is not what he [Herbert] He wanted to do. My fit [of Dune] it’s closer to his idea that it’s actually a warning.

Villeneuve also said he has already started writing the screenplay Messiah of the Dunes before the Writers Guild of America strike, quipping, “I’ll say there are words on paper.”

Villeneuve had previously discussed his plans for a third film saying, “There’s the second book of Dune, Dune Messiah, from which an extraordinary film could be born. I always thought there might be a trilogy; later, we’ll see. They are years of work; I can’t think of going any further.”

Messiah of the Dunes hasn’t received the official green light from Warner Bros. and Legendary yet, but Villeneuve hopes he can conclude his Dune trilogy.

Dune is the journey of a mythical and emotionally charged hero and tells the story of Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), “a brilliant and gifted young man born with a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s sole supply of the most precious resource in existence – a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential – only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The next chapter of the story will explore Paul Atreides’ mythic journey as he joins Chani and the Fremen as he is on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family. Faced with the choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he attempts to prevent a terrible future that only he can predict.”

The cast of the film includes Timothee Chalamet like Paul Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Zendaya like Chani, Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen, Javier Bardem as Chieftain Stilgar, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam, David Dastmcalchian in the role of Peter De Vries, Chang Chen as Doctor Yueh, Sharon Duncan-Brewster such as Liet-Kynes, e Dave Baptist as nephew of Baron Rabban.
