Over the weekend, it was announced that Amazon Studios had canceled two of its series, A league of their own and the sci-fi series The peripheral. The problem with the cancellation was that both series had been renewed for a second season earlier this year, so both the show’s creators and stars really had the rug pulled under their feet. The streamer cited the SAG/AFTRA strike as the reason for the cancellation, stating that they didn’t know when the shows could get back to shooting season 2, but according to that logic, all shows and movies would be canceled forever, which it’s obviously ridiculous.
A league of their own co-creator and star of the series Have Jacobson took to social media to talk about the pain caused by the show’s untimely end, saying:
How lucky I was to be able to tell these stories and play this character that I love so much. How rare in life. And so today I am sad.
Blaming this cancellation on the strike (which is an essential fight for fair wages, protection and working conditions, etc…) is bullshit and a coward. But this post is not about all of that. About all the ways this show has been highlighted. Not today.
This post here is about the special show I was lucky enough to put on with so many incredibly talented artists, actors, writers and crew. A show that I am so proud of. Filled to the brim with stories worth telling. Filled with so much heart, soul and value.

Amazon had already announced it A league of their own it was only going to have a limited second season, which would be its last, so the writers were already facing a limited amount of time to wrap up the story. Now we can’t see how that turned out. I absolutely loved this series and the important historical LGBTQ stories it told. I’m sorry to see him go. Maybe we could see him move to another streamer?
