TRON: ARES director vents his frustration over strikes as his film production was halted

Tron: Ares director Joachim Ronning he recently took to Instagram to let his fans know that Monday was supposed to be his first day of production on his new Disney project, but shared that “we’re closed with over a hundred and fifty people laid off,” due to WGA and SAG – AFTRA strikes.

As you can imagine, this is not only frustrating for him, but for all those who are out of work due to the ongoing strikes. The director added, “It’s undefined, which makes it exponentially more difficult for everyone.”

Rønning then urged: “AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA and WGA must speed up the negotiation process and not leave the table until it is finished.” He continued to vent his frustrations on the matter saying:

“This is Hollywood. We close breakfast business. Why do we suddenly have all the time in the world when every day is so precious? These tactics are extremely frustrating. It’s time for diplomacy so we can get back to work, on equal terms for all #amptp #sagaftra #wga.”

He makes an interesting point about how Hollywood is going out of business all the time, but now all of a sudden they can’t seem to get it together. His full statement reads:

The absolute best moments of my career have been watching an actor perform in front of the camera, taking the scene and the text to the next level. I’ve been fortunate enough to collaborate with some amazing talent. It’s a huge part of why I’m a director. However, like me, being an actor or a writer means being a freelancer. And I can tell you that constant uncertainty isn’t for everyone. To that end, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to ask for a better safety net.

Many of my best friends are writers. It all starts with the story. It all starts with you. This must continue. This means that AI needs to be regulated. There is no doubting the threat technology poses to all creatives.

Today was supposed to be our first day of principal photography on TRON: ARES (a later film about artificial intelligence and what it means, and requires, to be human). Instead, we are closed with over one hundred and fifty people on layoffs. It’s undefined, which makes it exponentially harder for everyone.

The AMPTP, SAG-AFTRA and WGA must expedite the negotiation process and not leave the table until it is concluded. This is Hollywood. We close breakfast business. Why do we suddenly have all the time in the world when every day is so precious? These tactics are extremely frustrating. It’s time for diplomacy to get back to work, on fair terms for all #amptp #sagaftra #wga

Tron: Ares stars Jared Leto, Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Sarah Desjardins, CameronMonaghan AND Jodie Turner-Smith.

As for the story, we just know that it will focus on the emergence of a sentient program that somehow enters the human world. Leto will assume the role of Ares, which is the manifestation of the Tron program. Leto is said to be playing a video game programmer and tech CEO in what is being described as the lead role.

Tron creator Steven Lisberger he is also involved in the development of the film as a consultant, and said: “The Tron team is hard at work. They are always hard at work. It will happen. My goal with these things is to play the role of Obi-Wan is to say the only sentence that has an impact. I try to say something that’s helpful to them without getting into the weeds.”

The third Tron movie was written by Jesse Wigutow AND Jack Thorne.
