Before Fast X It was released, Vin Diesel teased that the film could be the first part of a trilogy. He said at the time, “I can say this: Going into making this movie, the studio had asked if it could be a two-part movie, and after the studio saw it and when they saw the first part, they said, ‘We could make Fast X the finale, a trilogy?'”
Fast X it was originally the first of a two-part film. Then at the end of the movie, Dwayne Johnson returned as Luke Hobbes. When it was reported Johnson would get his own spinoff film to fill the gap Faxt X AND Quick XII just thought those three movies total were the trilogy Johnson was teasing.
Now, director Louis Letterier tries to offer some clarity on exactly what Diesel meant with his comments, telling GamesRader:
“The one thing about Vin is like when he’s on the press line, he’ll say anything to get out of that press line, and I’m kind of like him and I’m like, ‘Yeah sure, we’re going to the moon in the next . HI.’ And then he never forgets!
“Obviously the next one is coming, and then yes, one film at a time. I think the one thing Hollywood keeps reminding us is that it’s one step at a time, putting one foot forward at a time. We count our blessings. We are very lucky that this film was well received and loved, people went to see it in a theater and now they will see it at home, one at a time.
“I mean, maybe what he was saying is that there’s 25 years of filmmaking and storytelling, three acts, two hours and two movies, between the last one and this one, might not be enough to tell the story that’s needed, and it’s what we’re trying to figure out these days.”
Yeah, it just seems to me that Leterrier doesn’t really know what Diesel was saying. So, he’ll stick with the assumption that the Dwayne Johnson spinoff is the piece of the trilogy Diesel was teasing.
