Just like Marvel’s Inception Movie, Iron manthe film The Incredible Hulk celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. But unlike its predecessor, which came out just a month earlier, The Incredible Hulk he never got to continue his story or carry much weight in the MCU. its director, Louis Letterierwhich he also drove The carrier, Now you see Meand more recently Fast Xhe sat down with Comic Book and weighed what might have happened had his vision seen a sequel or two.
The director explained it Incredible Hulk 2 would have seen various versions of the Hulk introduced into the MCU: “There were like Gray Hulk, Red Hulks – there were a lot of good things we were planning.” Leterrier described Incredible Hulk 2 as having both Bruce Banner’s alternate “Grey Hulk” persona and not one but apparently multiple Red Hulks, who would apparently be Live Tyler’s Betty Ross and Thaddeus Ross, played then by the late William Hurt.
The MCU didn’t venture much deeper into the Hulk lore after that Incredible Hulk (2008) – not before She-Hulk debuted in 2022. Now rumors are circulating about the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World Harrison Ford will debut as Red Hulk, with Liv Tyler possibly returning to the franchise to play Red She-Hulk.
“The Hulk is a complex character within the Marvel Universe,” admitted Leterrier. “You want the Primal Hulk… the Rage Hulk. And then when you go to Gray Hulk and Smart Hulk you lose it a little bit and you get a little more childish with it.”
Leterrier was careful to conclude by saying that the Hulk we see now is a far cry from the Hulk he was trying to build:
“But that was the fun of where I was in my movie, with access to consciousness and all that stuff. It was really fun. And that’s what I intended to do. But take my time. Because there are so many characters want everything fast [laughs]. I like She-Hulk, but then you know, the yoga between the Hulk and… I was like, ‘Okay! yeah, we’re a long way from my Hulk.'”
Would you have liked to see what Leterrier would have done with his Hulk? What do you hope to see done with the character in the future of the MCU?
