FAST X director talks Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson getting back together: ‘There’s no fight’

This photo always makes me laugh.

Many Fast & Furious fans were surprised when it was announced that Dwayne Johnson he would return to the franchise, especially after the same public beef he’s been dealing with Vin Dieselbut they managed to put their differences aside and make something work.

Johnson is now set to star in another spin-off film that will bridge the gap between the events of Fast X and the Fast X sequel which is slated for release in 2025. Johnson will also appear in the sequel which is said to end the legacy franchise.

During a recent interview with CB, Fast X director Louis Leterrier was asked about the reconciliation between Johnson and Diesel, and he said:

“I just like the idea of them getting back together. What I get — they’re like you, I was a fan reading — they always talked. They were like text friends wishing each other ‘Happy Birthday’ ‘Merry Christmas.’ But being in each other’s lives…it’s more like these two characters are working in the same universe, mostly because Hobbs & Shaw was such a different tone, it was such a different departure from the original franchise…yeah they were just looked at each other and said, “Frankly, wouldn’t that be great? Not just for the franchise, but also for the fans and for you guys, for us to just get back on the same train together?” And this is a conversation they had. I was lucky to be able to work with Dwayne that day and maybe I’m looking forward to it.”

He kept talking about being in the director’s chair for this franchise because he grew up with those original films as a fan. He said:

“The thing about getting to this position in this franchise is that I grew up as a fan… I’m the kid in the candy store and the owners are gone, I’m like, ‘Okay, here we go. Let’s go!’ … My wishes come true, you know, if everyone agrees.”

Leterrier was then asked if he was concerned about refereeing between the two actors when they resume working together, and he said:

“No, no, no, no, no, no, no. They’re really good. There’s no fight. Honestly, this set is so adorable, so funny, so funny. … I’m not giving you lip service I really enjoyed it. Like I was nervous. I was nervous, you know, I walked in, I was nervous, but everyone works so hard and wants the best for these franchises. Yeah. No, it’s really about forward momentum and we have that. ‘we have”.

I just hope the next two movies bring the franchise to a close conclusion, because the last two movies have been disappointing. Fast X: Part 2 will be released on April 2, 2025.
