Kevin Smith Biopic SHOOTING CLERKS Debuts This Weekend at Smith’s Smodcastle Cinemas in New Jersey

The long fermentation Kevin Smith biopic Shooting clerks is finally making its debut this weekend, fittingly right at the Smodcastle Cinemas, owned by Smith himself. The biopic focuses on the director’s first film, Employees, which he released in 1994, when Smith was just 24 years old. The actor has previously talked about making the film, which he wrote and directed, for just $27,000, which he acquired by maxing out his credit cards, selling his comic book collection and cashing in a totaled car insurance settlement. .

The synopsis of the press release reads:

“The true story of how convenience store clerk Kevin Smith made his grainy $27,000 movie Clerks with Maxed Credit Cards and the people who helped him on his independent crusade.”

The director of the film, Christopher Downie, aims to inspire other aspiring filmmakers to follow their dreams with this loving tribute. Downie says:

“The tagline ‘It’s just about making a movie with your friends’ says it all for me, personally. I’ve always had the help of friends and family when making movies. It has run through my entire career because it makes the process an enjoyable experience. Those we hired to work on the film, namely the cast and my producer Ryan James, have become close friends, mostly because they share the same feelings. It’s really about making a movie with your friends.

The film will debut at Smodcastle Cinemas in New Jersey on Sunday, August 13 at 2:00 p.m., and immediately following the screening, cast and crew, including Kevin Smith himself, film director Christopher Downie and producer Ryan James will take the stage to a question and answer to all access.
