Blumhouse’s MAGIC 8 BALL film was written by the screenwriter of COCAINE BEAR

Several years ago Mattel partnered with Blumhouse to produce a film based on the classic 1950s toy Magic sphere 8. Last we heard, Jeff Wadlow (Truth or Dare) was attached to direct the film, and the project just got a new writer.

According to a New Yorker report highlighting the upcoming Barbie film, they revealed that “Jimmy Guardianthe screenwriter of Cocaine bearha[s] has come up with a horror comedy about the Magic 8 Ball.

With the writer of Cocaine bear behind the movie, it’s safe to say that this Magic 8 Ball movie will go into wild and unhinged territory.

It’s unclear if Wadlow is still attached to direct, but whoever he is will most likely have a fun script to work with. With the project underway at Blumhouse, we can expect the film to be a horror thriller, and I imagine Magic 8 Ball will summon some terrifying demons. Who knows, there are many different directions they can go with a damn Magic 8 Ball.

There are no story details, but Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films previously said, “Since the 1950s, Magic 8 Ball has inspired imagination, suspense and intrigue across generations. This iconic toy has an inherent connection to fans and untapped potential for storytelling. There are no better suited partners to tell the story than Magic 8 Ball in collaboration with Jeff Wadlow’s Mattel Films and Blumhouse Productions, whose unique approach to the thriller genre has captivated audiences around the world and won widespread recognition.

The founder of Blumhouse Jason Blum added, “As fans of Mattel and their iconic brands, we can’t wait to bring Magic 8 Ball, one of their most celebrated toys, to life and play against expectations in the process. We look forward to partnering with Mattel Films to get this project on the fast track to the big screen and create a memorable experience for viewers.”
