Producer of JOHN WICK prequel series THE CONTINENTAL talks about casting Mel Gibson

Many fans were surprised when it was announced Mel Gibson was set to star in the upcoming John Wick prequel series, The Continental. As you know, the actor has a lot of controversy due to his past behavior and nasty anti-Semitic comments made during a drunk driving arrest in 2006.

Mel Gibson has never really stopped working regardless of his background, and has been involved in different types of projects as a director and producer. But when he was cast in the high-profile project The Continentalthere was little backlash.

During a recent interview with IGN, executive producer Basil Iwanik addressed Gibson’s casting in the series, saying, “There just wasn’t any consideration about it.”

Executive producer Albert Hughes said, “I think he fit the role, he fit what we needed based on his cinematic background. And I’ll let the others discuss the other stuff because it’s not a black and white issue, and I don’t want to be punctuated and clickbait. It’s a tricky game to get into. I have my own beliefs in life and whatnot about everything, but I’m here to entertain. And early in my career, I wasn’t that observant. But there’s a weight that he brought, the things he brought from his past roles and what he did that we needed for this role. his experience».

Gibson has kept busy and is currently working on a sequel to Christ’s passion and is also developing another project with Mark Wahlberg for Lionsgate titled Flight risk. He also tried to get a Lethal weapon 5 movie from the ground.

The Continental is planned as a three-episode event series, with each episode running for 90 minutes. The story of the series will be told through the eyes and actions of Winston Scott, “who is drawn into the hellish 1975 New York City to face a past he thought he had left behind. Winston plots a deadly path through the mysterious underworld of New York in a harrowing bid to take over the iconic hotel, which serves as a meeting point for the world’s most dangerous criminals.

The series is the protagonist Colin Woodell as a young Winston Scott; Ayomide Adegunwho will play a young Charon (based on Lance Reddickcharacter of); Peter Greene, who wears Uncle Charlie’s fedora (based on the tight-lipped body disposal expert); Gibson plays Cormac; Ben Robson as Frankie; Hubert Point-Du Jour like miles; Jessica Allain like Lou; Mishel Prada as KD; AND Nhung Kate like Yen.

The three-part event will hit Peacock later this year in September 2023.
