INDIANA JONES 5 Director James Mangold Not Interested in Making a Phoebe Waller-Bridge Spinoff

As you know, Disney and Lucasfilm have been trying to continue the Indiana Jones franchise without Indiana Jones. At one point, they were making pitches for a spin-off series, but Harrison Ford he’s 100% done with the character now. So whatever happens, the next one won’t involve Jones.

Some people think that the upcoming movie, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will install Phoebe Waller Bridgethe character of Helena Shaw as the character who will take over the franchise. Although it could very well happen, director James Mangold he is not interested in this. He told Variety:

“I’m not interested. I refuse. I just can’t do it. The amount of lore and Easter eggs and fan service starts to become antithetical to any of those things at some point. It’s not storytelling anymore. It’s advertising at scale.”

Now, just because it won’t, doesn’t mean Lucasfilm and Disney won’t bring in someone else who would. I actually liked the Waller-Bridge character Quadrant of Destiny! Helena Shaw is Indy’s goddaughter in the film, which is why people think this will be the more likely spinoff.

Personally, I think the Indiana Jones franchise should end with this movie. Really, what’s the point without Ford? However, if they try to keep the franchise alive, the only thing that would work, that the fans would be happy with, is a series centered on the adventures of Ke Huy Quan’s Short Round.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy previously spoke about continuing the franchise, saying it’s “entirely possible” but “we’re not having any of those conversations right now. We’re just focused on finishing this one with Harrison.”

Regardless of what happens with the franchise in the future, enjoy this final adventure of Ford’s Indiana Jones The Quadrant of Destiny!
