John Wick: Chapter 4 it took the action franchise to a crazy new level and I enjoyed every damn minute! After the release of the film, there was a lot of talk about whether there would be another film or not. Ultimately, the movie was a huge success for Lionsage and they will definitely want to keep it going as long as the audience wants it and the audience wants it.
During Lionsgate’s recent fourth quarter 2023 earnings call, the president of the Motion Picture Group Joe Drake he confirmed it John Wick: Chapter 5 is under development! Has shared:
“Now we’re moving through that franchise, not just in the AAA video game space, but looking at what regular cadence of spinoffs, television really does grow that universe so that there’s a constant cadence of a franchise that’s there. a clear appetite from the audience. What is official is that, as you know, Ballerina is the first spin-off that will be released next year. We are in development on three more, including [John Wick 5] and the included television series, The Continental, is set to air soon. And so, we’re building the world and when those five movies come, it’s going to be organic — it’s going to have grown organically from how we’re starting to tell those stories. But you can rely on a regular John Wick cadence.”
So essentially, the John Wick franchise isn’t going away anytime soon. They have long term plans for the franchise and as long as they keep producing great movies and TV shows I will keep showing up to watch them!
Lionsgate has previously explained that she is not ready to say goodbye to the character. Franchise manufacturer Erica Lee he also said that all team members will want to get back together to do it again. Then there is the director Chad Stahelski, who said he and his team are open. He said:
“It’s very flattering for them to come back and say, ‘We want more,’ and it’s not just a cash grab. It’s legitimately the public wants more. I think we all need that little bit of time to say “Damn.” Let’s see what’s next.’ … If Keanu and I, in a few months’ time, sit down again in a whiskey bar in Japan and say, ‘Yeah, we’ll never do one of those again,’ and then suddenly we’re like, ‘Yeah, but I had a ‘idea.’ We are open to it.
Stahelski has also previously said that he could make these John Wick movies for the rest of his career and that he and Reeves have a ton of ideas. So, they need to stop pretending they don’t know what else to do with the franchise.
“I like making these films because there are no limits. We create our own mythology and have a studio that doesn’t hinder us and supports us in extravagant decisions. If people go to see the movie, and it makes money, and they come back to us, Keanu and I have ideas for days. I could live here for the rest of my career. If people like it and want to watch more of it, I could think of worse ways to spend your career. But, you know, we’re in show business. We will let the audience understand that.
Keanu Reeves he went on to say, “As far as my legs can take me. As far as the audience wants to go.” Then, speaking about the future of the franchise and whether we would see a fifth chapter, Reeves said before chapter 4 came out:
“You have to see how audiences respond to what we did. The only reason we got the chance to make these movies is people liked what we did. So I think we have to wait and see how audiences respond to it.Hopefully he likes it.
Now that the public has responded and the dust has settled, Lionsgate is ready to launch the next wave of John Wick projects. Are you excited about the future of the franchise?
