I’m curious to see what Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo) is trying to do with the Alien series he is developing for FX. Hawley is such a talented storyteller, so if anyone can take this franchise and breathe new life into it, it’s him.

The story for Hawley’s Alien “It takes place before Ripley. It is the first story set in the Alien on Earth franchise. It has also been revealed that it will be set near “the end of this century that we’re in, so 70-odd years from now.” It will also be the first Alien story set on Earth.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant, the director talked about taking on this project and his plans to “remystify” the Alien franchise. hd said:

“When FX asked me if I’d be interested in adapting what is now a franchise, but has always been this film to me, I had to think about what was the film that originally inspired it and whether I would be able to create it for an audience Of course, you only get to see Alien for the first time once and there’s something so unpredictable about the creature at its core, and so creepy, that after 6 movies you think ‘well, maybe there’s no more mystery.’ for me it’s trying to remystify the franchise Creature, story, for a modern audience the way my 15 year old won’t think is slow, is the requirement.

Sidney Chandlerdaughter of Kyle Chandler (Friday night lights) is set to star in the series. The project will mix “both the timeless horror of the first Alien film with the non-stop action of the second, it will be a scary thrill ride that will bring people back to their places”.

Hawley has previously spoken about the series, saying, “It’s about how we’re caught between the primeval past and the artificial intelligence of our future, where both [are] trying to kill us. It is set on the Earth of the future. Right now, I describe it as Edison versus Westinghouse versus Tesla. Someone will monopolize electricity. We just don’t know what it is.”

He went on to say, “It’s a story set on Earth as well. Alien stories are always trapped… Trapped in a prison, trapped in a spaceship. I thought it would be interesting to open it up a bit so that the stakes of ‘What if you can’t contain it?’ they are more immediate”.

Are you excited about Hawley’s vision for this? Alien series? Do you think it will be good!?
