Andy Serkis Says He’d Love To Return To Play Gollum In New Lord Of The Rings Movies If Asked

Just a few months ago, it was announced that New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Pictures are partnering with Embracer Group AB’s Middle-Earth Enterprises, on a new multi-year deal to develop a series of new The Lord of the Rings movie. Director of the original trilogy Peter Jackson and his writing team are discussing potentially being part of the new films, and one character has also expressed a desire to return.

Andy Serkis he is best known for playing Gollum in Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and when asked by THR if he would like to return to his famous part, he said:

“I love those guys and they are a second family to me. I spent so many years making movies with them. I love their sensitivity and their interpretation; it’s cinema on a different level. You live it and you breathe it. And so, YESif any opportunity were to present itself, it would be an incredible thing.

Right now, we have no idea if the new stories will include the character, but if they do, it would be fitting for Serkis to return to the role. No one could play it like him, and it would be nice to see him again.

A lot of decisions still need to be made for this project to come together, so we’ll keep you posted as information rolls in. What do you hope to see in these new ones Lord of the Rings movie?
