It was exciting to learn that Dave Filoni is about to do a Star Wars film for Lucasfilm. This film will be a big event that will “close” the interconnected stories The Mandalorian, Boba Fett’s bookAND Ahsoka. The project has been described as a “New Republic vs. Imperial Remnants” story.
Star Wars fans have been wondering what the title of the film will be, and according to Twitter Entertainment Scooper MyTimeToShineHithe film will be titled Star Wars: Heir to the Empire.
Since Grand Admiral Thrawn is the main villain of the story, it makes perfect sense that the film should be called. As many of you already know, Heir to the Empire was the title of Timothy Zahn’s classic Star Wars novel. Now, the title hasn’t been confirmed, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what the title ended up being.
Filoni previously spoke of Thrawn as the “big bad guy of this New Republic era” and said, “Definitely, in my eyes.” He went on to say, “Thrawn became this very iconic villain, because he was unlike anything we’ve seen before. He wasn’t another helmet-wearing, lightsaber-wielding villain.”
Thrawn is “a leader, a military strategist, a Moriarty archetype, someone who will outrun you, outstrategize you.” These are all the reasons why fans love Thrawn and what makes him such an interesting and unique Star Wars villain. The “Heir to the Empire” is coming, and he is “a key player in this time period”. The character will make his live action debut in Ahsoka and is played by him Lars Mikkelsen.
Speaking previously of the film, Filoni said, “The way I see it, there are [small] stories, and then there’s also the big story of the day. A new hope, [The Empire Strikes Back]AND Return of the Jedi tell the important parts of the tale that really define the story of the period. There are all kinds of underlying sub-stories. We built all these little stories.”
The director then went on to discuss the theatrical experience, saying that a film like the one he’s making will contain an event that will define the era: “For me, a theatrical experience has to have a big idea – a monumental moment in the period of time this changes what’s going on, that Tony [Gilroy] did [in Andor] and what we did inside [Star Wars] Rebels, everything then changes when Luke blows up the Death Star. You’re looking for those moments that define an era, and that’s really what movies should be about, whether it’s characters coming together or a defining moment.”
We still have a long way to go before we see this film made, but I’m excited to see what Filoni and his team deliver!
