The creator of The Evocation Tony DeRosa-Grundis now developing a new horror film franchise with The obsessed. DeRosa-Grund developed the original Evocation film and also created the overall trajectory of the concept, which as you know has been very successful. We’ve learned in recent months that there will be a fourth Conjuring movie along with a TV series.
As for The obsessed, that film franchise will also draw inspiration from real-life encounters with terrifying spirits from the afterlife and tell the stories of the victims who suffered during these harrowing experiences. The creator said so The obsessed “is exponentially better and truer and more terrifying” than The Evocation.
The announcement reads: “Cinedigm today announced that the Company will partner with horror heavyweight Tony DeRosa-Grund, creator of The Conjuring (over $2 billion at the box office to date), to develop The obsesseda new paranormal horror franchise based on verifiable true events.
As for the story, “Cinedigm can confirm that The Haunted franchise begins with a family’s dark and terrifying real-life preternatural experiences intersected with historical facts and legends surrounding a young pregnant woman accused by her father of being A witch. This convergence places the family in imminent mortal danger.
DeRosa-Grund gave the franchise a name and created its “road map,” which “aims to emulate that previous success by building similarly The obsessed universe through sequels, historical prequels and spin-offs. The franchise’s initial focus will be on real-life events experienced by a multigenerational family under siege by malevolent and extremely violent supernatural forces. The Haunted also focuses on its extremely rare circumstances which occurred when the living people involved suffered significant and repeated actual bodily harm – even death – from these dark forces that afflicted them. The fact that these events could happen to anyone, combined with the ‘you can run but you can’t hide’ aspect of the family’s real situation, opens up new depths to the horror genre.”

DeRosa-Grund added, “Having created, produced and written the story for the original The Conjuring, I can say, with absolute clarity and certainty, that The obsessed it is exponentially better and truer and more terrifying. I’m really excited to work with Tom and Brad [Miska of Cinedigm/Bloody Disgusting] who “got it” and embraced the project from our very first meeting. I also want to thank the president of Cinedigm, Chris McGurk, who not only supported my very first feature film, but also convinced me to come out of my retirement for this project.”
As a horror movie fan, I really hope this new franchise ends up being as good and scary as they imagine it to be. The world could always use more great horror movies!
