Star Wars star Daisy Ridley is set to star in a dizzying action thriller titled Cleaner, which comes from Martin Campbell, the director behind it Casino Royale AND Golden eye. This is going to be a great movie for those of you with a fear of heights.
The story is set in present-day London and “will see radical activists take control of an energy company’s annual gala at the Shard – the tallest skyscraper in Western Europe – by taking 300 hostages to expose the corruption of the landlords”.
Their just cause is hijacked by “a zealous extremist within their ranks, who is ready to kill everyone in the building to send his anarchist message to the world. It’s up to ex-soldier turned window cleaner, Joey Locke (Ridley) – suspended 90 stories outside the building – to rescue those trapped inside and bring down the assassins, while also finding a way to bring the corrupt tycoons of the energy to justice”.
The movie seems to have some Die Hard vibes and Ridley is the John McClane of the story. This should be a fun project for the actress!
Campbell said in a statement, “Cleaner is a nail-biting thriller that is unique and original in both its characters and setting. Much of the film takes place on the side of the Shard – hundreds of feet in the air – and I want the audience to be up there with Joey in a dizzying, spine-tingling experience. There isn’t a more instinctive and powerful actress than Daisy right now to help us do just that. Most of my movies are thrillers and Cleaner is one of the best I’ve ever read.”
Producer Sebastian Raybaud said: “The intention has always been to make European action thrillers that are sophisticated, provocative and entertaining at the same time. Independent films from our region with heart and identity, but also providing a unique and accessible proposition for contemporary audiences around the world. With Martin and Daisy in charge and a script so unpredictable and authentic, we have everything we need to do just that.”
Ridley recently completed work on the noir thriller he has been developing titled Magpie. We will see it soon The swamp king’s daughter AND Young Woman And The Sea. Ridley will also reprise the role of Rey in one of the Star Wars: New Jedi Order movie.
