The scene presents Halle Bailey like Ariel e Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric as they take a romantic boat ride. The goal is for Ariel to try to get true love’s kiss from Eric to break Ursula’s spell and get her voice back.

The scene plays out pretty much exactly like in the classic animated film. But some of the song’s lyrics have been changed to allow for consensus like in the scene. Alan Menken previously explained:

“There are some changes in the lyrics of ‘Kiss the Girl’ because people have become very sensitive to the idea [Prince Eric] it would impose itself in any way [Ariel].”

“We have some revisions in ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ in regards to lines that might somehow make girls feel like they shouldn’t be talking out of turn, even though Ursula is clearly manipulating Ariel into giving up her voice.”

The little Mermaid is the beloved story of Ariel, a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure. The youngest of King Triton’s daughters and the most rebellious, Ariel longs to know more about the world beyond the sea, and while she visits the surface, she falls in love with the handsome Prince Eric. While mermaids are forbidden from interacting with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the wicked sea witch, Ursula, that gives her the chance to experience life on land, but in the end she jeopardizes her life and her father’s crown.

Check out the new teaser and get ready to watch The little Mermaid in theaters May 26.
