The video was created and shared by Gene Roddenberry Estate and OTOY for the new Roddenberry Archives website. On the site, fans can virtually visit the bridge of the Enterprise as it appeared throughout Star Trekthe story and more.
Spock was digitally recreated for the short film and perfectly captures the likeness of Leonardo Nimoy. While Spock is visiting his friend’s final resting place, he withdraws Kirk’s Starfleet badge.
The short draws inspiration from two primary sources. The recovery of the Enterprise-D is inspired by its return Star Trek: Picard Season 3. Geordi La Forge rebuilt the ship for the Starfleet Museum after Starfleet ruled that the Prime Directive would not allow the ship to remain on the surface of Veridian III.
Then there was the Star Trek novel Ashes of Eden, written by William Shatner. The stories follow Kirk after he is resurrected after his death in Star Trek Generations and continues his travels in the Star Trek: The Next Generation era.
There was an episode of Star Trek: PicardThe final season of Che confirmed that Section 31 has Kirk’s body in stasis at Daystrom Station. Either way, watch the short below and tell us what you think!
