The new TRANSFORMERS animated film is an origin story set on Cybertron that could launch a trilogy

Paramount Pictures is developing a new untitled cartoon Transformers film that will hit theaters in 2024 and we have many new details to share with you thanks to the producer of the franchise Lawrence of Bonaventure.

The film is directed by Story of the toy 4 director Josh Cooley, and it looks like it will be an epic story that will provide an origin story for the planet Cybertron and all Transformers. This is a story I’ve always been interested in seeing come to life and it’s exciting to know that this new animated film will dive into it!

During a recent interview with Collider, Bonaventura was asked about the film set on Cybertron and revealed that it will tell the story of a young Optimus Prime and Megatron:

“I could tell you really important parts of this story, which is more of a tease. This is something we were trying to do; we talked about it a lot in live action, and it was just financially impossible to do, which is, the origin story. about young Megatron and young Optimus.If you know the origin, they started out as friends, and over time things changed for them and they ended up on two sides.So we’re telling the story of young Optimus and young Megatron.We’re really telling the origin story of all Transformers, both who they were to begin with, and how they grew up, and how they went their separate ways.”

The producer goes on to say that he thinks this story will make up a “natural trilogy” that he wants to tell and there are already more films planned. He explained:

“Hopefully there’s enough emotional construct to this, which would lead to a trilogy because, personally, I think there’s a natural trilogy. I don’t always try to make more movies, but there is a natural trilogy around their relationship. So , you will see Cybertron in a way that you have never seen it, that no one has ever seen it before. Because we are doing an animation, we can really do everything. If you tried to do this live-action, it would probably be a movie a billion dollar or something like that.”

It seriously sounds like it could be awesome! The more information he reveals, the more I get excited! He goes on to compare the fall of Cybertron to Superman and the destruction of Krypton. He also says that the versions of Optimus and Megatron we meet in this film will be different than we’ve known them over the years:

“You’ll see a lot of the origins of society, and what destroyed it. The analogy to me is kind of like Krypton when you saw the planet fall apart, and all that. We’re not there for a little while, we’re there throughout the film time, we are on Cybertron, but we are in the challenge that if you know the lore, they start questioning the hierarchy of how their society has stratified and how the common man has no voice, quite We’re following the origin story very closely, and so it’s also very entertaining, because I got to see some of it – it’s not fully executed by any stretch of the imagination, but hearing Optimus and Megatron not like who them we know, as we see their maturation in this experience. While the film is an origin story, it won’t be a “coming-of-age” story, explains di Bonaventura.

“It’s not a coming-of-age story. I don’t think you’d believe it, in a way, but I’d say they’re young men who are finding their way. Like I said, it’s more of a tease, that’s what the story is , and that’s the experience you will have. And the way they question society, just like all of us, we might question our society. Maybe we’re not as strong as Megatron and Optimus, so maybe we wouldn’t make the same choices , but I think it will really be an eye opener for fans.For the non-fans, you will meet the characters in their early lineup.

As for how this upcoming animated Transformers movie could spawn a trilogy, the producer talked about how it would work saying:

“I would say this, we don’t spend a lot of time thinking about two and three because it’s always hard to get one right. But there’s a natural trilogy that arises from this friendship where you can see the divisions and possible attractions in each other , and why this would have to take place over three movies, that’s very natural. So we have a good sense in the broader terms, but in the broader terms, we know what the second movie would be about, and the third movie would be through the eyes of what he’s going through. this relationship. So the exact plot, we haven’t worked on it, but how that relationship evolves, evolves, evolves, evolves, all that stuff, that’s what’s going to drive it if we’re lucky, if the first one is a success. “

The screenplay of the film was written by Andrew Barra AND Gabriel Ferrariwho previously worked at Marvel’s Ant man AND Ant-Man and the Wasp. Cooley is now overseeing a final draft of the script with the writers.
