Evgeniy Maloletka’s award-winning photograph shows injured 32-year-old pregnant Iryna Kalinina being evacuated on a stretcher after a Russian attack on a hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine.

The photo went around the world. On March 9, 2022, a young woman named Iryna Kalinina lay on a stretcher, with her hand on her stomach, injured. Russia had just bombed the Mariupol hospital in Ukraine, just two weeks into the war. The attack left 3 dead and 17 injured and Iryna Kalinina and her baby did not survive. A strong cliché, which had moved the whole world, and which today received the first prize of Photo of the world press.
