‘Star Wars’, one of the film industry’s great franchises, has experienced turbulent years on the big screen. While it’s true that the most recent galactic trilogy has enjoyed strong box office receipts, it’s no secret that it has divided critics and fandom, to which we must add the disaster, both financially and critically, of ‘Han Solo: A Star Wars Story’. On the other hand, ‘Star Wars’ seems to have found solid foundations with a future thanks to its series on Disney+, but the fate of the saga in cinematic terms is very uncertain.

Unlike the series calendar, which expects to be fairly complete both this year and the next, barring possible changes, We won’t see a “Star Wars” movie until 2025, six years after the last release, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”. ‘Star Wars’ still isn’t quite sure what to do on the big screen, to the point that the studio has shelved, temporarily or permanently, two upcoming films that were in development. Bob Iger, CEO of Disney, has shed some light on the question of the franchise’s feature films. Thoroughly tied to his recent words to prioritize quality over quantity at Disney, the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecommunications Conference (via Collider), Iger assured that he hasn’t forgotten about the movies, but is being very cautious: “We’re still developing the ‘Star Wars’ movies, but we’re going to make sure that when we make one, it’s the right one. We’re being very careful.”
The Disney boss cited the box office flop of ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ as the main reason the studio’s production plan was changed. The film not only did poorly at the box office, but the production was complicated and caused its budget to increase significantly. With an expenditure of approximately 300 million dollars, ‘Solo’ raised 392 million. Considering how expensive it was to produce and that a brand as popular as “Star Wars” has the potential for so much more, Iger describes it as “disappointing”.
Other than the movie which is due out in 2025, there’s nothing else on the horizon. Rian Johnson (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi”) has a contract with Lucasfilm to develop a trilogy, but at the moment he is very busy with the saga of ‘Puñales por el espalda’. We are unlikely to see the director in this distant galaxy anytime soon.
‘Ahsoka’ Release Date
Embodied by Rosario Dawson, We first saw Ahsoka in real action in “The Mandalorian” 2×05. In December 2020, along with the rest of the new series that have already arrived or will soon arrive on Disney+, a series focused on Ahsoka was announced. We know it’s due out this year, but the closest we’ve gotten to knowing the exact date is when Dawson said off the record that he thinks it’s coming to the streaming platform in the fall. However, as reported by Variety, “Ahsoka” should be out sooner than Dawson thinks, precisely in the second half of summer, around August or September.
In April we celebrate the Star Wars Celebration, an event focused on the galactic saga in which The franchise should update information about its future.
