Dave Filoni speculates when Grogu might start talking and who he thinks he might look like

Season one of The Mandalorian introduced us to “Baby Yoda”, who we now know as Grogu. We know that he is the same species as Yoda and we know that he is a powerful Jedi who has now trained under Luke Skywalker. But we don’t know much else about the little guy.

We learned in Season 1 that he is in his 50s, but knowing that Yoda lived to be at least 900 years old, we can infer that their species grows at a very stretched rate, so Grogu still looks like a child. So how long until we hear him speak, and how will he play him?

When asked by Entertainment tonight how old is this species when they start talking, series writer/producer/director Dave Filoni he answered:

“That’s a good question. I mean, I guess he’s quite young. We don’t know that he’s not talking his way, and, obviously, he can communicate with Ahsoka where she can at least guess some kind of communication from him. . What would be the His first word? We’ll see, I don’t know.”

The interviewer speculated that Grogu might sound like Yoda, and Filoni replied:

“What makes you think it’s a species issue? It’s interesting. Maybe. I think you’re influenced by those around you, that’s a good question.”

So maybe it will sound more like Din Djarin or Luke? Or maybe something different all together? When asked how old Grogu is, Filoni successfully dodged the question, making me believe it was an important question.

“We said he was in his 50s, so I’m not going to set a definitive number, because that would tell you how long these shows have been going on. It’s something like this, then we get into this and that, and I used generic terms like this because I don’t want to.” unravel things. You’ll find that the future is always in motion. It’s over 50 years old, that’s all you need to know.”

Series creator Jon Favreau recently commented on how much time Grogu had been training with Luke, saying that after several years with Mando, he spent two years with Skywalker. So we know it’s been at least five years since we’ve met these characters at the start of the series, and for some reason, they’re elusive about the timeline. Why do you think this could be?
